Irritable Bowel Syndrome
What is Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
Commonly known as IBS, irritable bowel syndrome is a gastrointestinal disorder that affects the large intestines. It causes abdominal cramp or pain and is accompanied by symptoms such as:
- Diarrhoea, constipation, or alternating episodes of both
- Mucus in stools
- Abdominal bloating and excessive wind
- Feeling of incomplete emptying of bowel
- Unexplained weight loss
- Rectal bleeding
Causes of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Symptoms of IBS not only affect our health but also compromise our quality of life. Some may also reach a point of depression. Studies indicated as many as 1 in 5 American adults has signs and symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.
There are mainly 2 types of irritable bowel syndrome, one of which triggers stronger than normal contractions, causing gas, bloating and diarrhoea. The other may have weak intestinal contractions which slow food passage, leading to hard, dry stools.
The exact causes of IBS is still not known but a variety of factors are attributed to it. An imbalanced gut flora dominated by harmful bacteria can result in a build-up of toxins and intestinal wastes that weakens the intestines and prevent them from functioning normally.
How does Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) Fermented Extract help IBS?
Common symptoms of IBS such as abdominal bloating, diarrhoea and constipation are all results of low counts of good bacteria.
LAB Fermented Extract encourages the proliferation of the body’s resident good bacteria, helping it restore the intestinal flora, thereby reducing the incidence of common IBS symptoms. Improvement in symptoms may also lift moods, helping to reduce stress precursor of IBS and reduce the risk of depression.
How it Works?
Improvement in Intestinal Environment
Beneficial effects of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) Fermented Extract on intestinal environment by Dr Hiromi Shinya- Clinical Professor, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, USA
Dr Hiromi Shinya is a pioneer of modern colonoscopic techniques and author of many bestselling books in Asia. Case studies were conducted on the effects of LAB Fermented Extract, below are the improvements observed:
- Improvement in intestinal environment
- Improvement in immunity
- Improvement in bowel irregularity
Improvement in Bowel Movement
Beneficial effects of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) Fermented Extract on bowel movement conducted by Seikokai Health Clinic, Contract Research Organisation
A study was conducted to observe the effects of LAB Fermented Extract on bowel movement after 2 weeks of consumption. It was confirmed that the stool quantity and frequency of bowel movement improved after the ingestion of LAB Fermented Extract.
Improvement in the Growth of Bifidobacterium
Beneficial effects of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) Fermented Extract on the growth of Bifidobacterium in the intestine, compiled by N and S Corporation, Hachioji Research Laboratory
A study was conducted to observe the effects of LAB Fermented Extract on increasing the quantity of Bifidobacterium (good bacteria) in the intestine and acetic acid content in the feces (inhibit the growth of bad bacteria) after 1 month of consumption. It was confirmed that there is a significant increase in the quantity of Bifidobacterium in the intestine. Further, the increase in acetic acid content in feces confirmed that LAB Fermented Extract was able to improve the intestinal environment by inhibiting the growth of bad bacteria.
“I’m glad to find a natural solution to relieve my Irritable Bowel Syndrome.”
“I’ve been suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome since last year; my abdomen was bloated and painful on most days. My stools were loose; I always had diarrhoea and needed to visit the toilet very often. So much so that my friends called me their “Toilet friend”.
I came across Biogenics 16 and decided to give it a try. Surprisingly, I was able to see results after only three days. My stools were less “watery” and “normal shaped”; and the bloating and abdominal pain have eased too. I’ve stopped taking my usual medication and am now into my fourth box of Biogenics 16. I feel happier, healthier and more energetic after only one and a half months. It’s great I’m no longer called a “Toilet friend”. I will definitely continue to take Biogenics 16.”
Can bacteria in your gut explain your mood?
Research brings new meaning to ‘you are what you eat’. Our gut flora make us who we are. Intestinal bacteria produce serotonin, a type of “happy hormone” that can affect your mood.
How Our Microbes Make Us Who We Are
Rob Knight a microbial ecologist explains the critical role played by microbes in our health. He believes microbes can affect one’s chances of developing disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Are We Too Clean? How Changing A Body’s Microbes Leads To Illness
Dr. Claire M. Fraser, a microbiologist highlighted the importance of microbes to our health from birth. She explained how microbes influence our chances of contracting certain diseases and also spoke on the use of antibiotics posing long-term effects on the ecosystem of the microbes in our body; making us more susceptible to illnesses.
